Elliott Finishes Seventh in Rain-Shortened Clash at Daytona
Chase Elliott battled through the field and weather delays to finish seventh in the rain-shortened Clash at Daytona.
Chase Elliott and the Mountain Dew Team Rubicon team started The Clash at Daytona International Speedway from the rear of the field in a backup car following an accident during Saturday’s lone practice session.
Elliott gradually made his way forward through the pack before rain brought up the first red flag of the race after just eight laps. The driver of the No. 9 headed to pit road once the race returned to a caution and continued his ascent up the leaderboard when the green flag waved once again.
Following a competition caution after Lap 25, Elliott was scored as high as eighth for the ensuing restart on Lap 33. After a second red flag for rain, Elliott headed to pit road before the race resumed and lined up 19th for the restart.
With 20 laps to go, Elliott was involved in a multi-car incident, but was able to stay on the track with minimal damage. When the race was called several laps later due to rain, Elliott was credited with a seventh-place finish.
